Sara Burns' Debut Children's Book

Sara Burns was in her 40s before she was sufficiently convinced she had some creative genes that she might be able to use. Being a medical transcriptionist, she boldly submitted an article to the transcriptionists quarterly magazine; it was accepted and published. More articles followed. Encouraged by the acceptance of her writing, she wrote a book about her career. Readers loved it. She has been working on a fictionalized autobiography and hopes to publish it one day. A compilation of several of her shorter articles were printed and given to family and friends, and Sara will soon be publishing that as well.

An intriguing assignment in a writer’s group led to writing this children’s book about Matt and his adventures in the ocean. This is the first of a series that will include an accompanying coloring and activities book. The second story of Matt’s adventures is
already in the works. Sara hopes Matt’s adventures will not only entertain children, but the subtle lessons on the environment hidden in the pages will resonate with every child who hears the stories.

You Talkin’ To Me?
Rylanne Burdette Readers’ Favorite

From first seeing the cover of You Talkin’ To Me?, I knew I was going to fall in love with it. The illustrations bring to life the adventures of the ocean so vibrantly, while the dialogue and characters share some educational knowledge that is important for children to learn at a young age.

Both Matt and Water were wonderful characters, and I enjoyed following them around the ocean floor as they met different creatures, talked about how to make the earth a better place, and more.

This book made me smile, and I learned some new things while reading it. I would recommend this story by Sara Burns to all families with young children; this is a book that can be read over and over again, and it provides a great learning opportunity!

I think the illustrations are gorgeous! They are bright and colourful and you have no choice but to be drawn into the story! The creative artwork complements the story perfectly (I love the big fish illustration!)
The story is equally captivating. What a clever way to draw the reader into a little boy’s imagination, while subtly teaching about the water cycle, the magic of the ocean and the importance of looking after our planet Earth. I also like how it encourages daydreamers – let the imagination flow – there is still a lot of learning happening when one gets lost in fantasy!

I love the story! I like the environmental aspect to it. I like the flow of the story, how it touches on every aspect of the water drops journey. The fun approach to the explanation is just what I want for my kids.
I especially love the use of different words like caddywumpus etc.. made me smile!
The illustrations are very good! I like the water illustration very much, so joyful and full of energy! I love the double page spreads and the way the pictures blend so well with the story.
